GT Tuning Exhaust Re-Route Pipe

Posted by

After swapping the restrictive stock air filter for a free flowing GT Tuning Ram Air Induction system it was time to turn my attention to the exhaust. Blown engines need to push large volumes of air through their exhaust systems to generate good horsepower. I wanted a cost effective solution that offered improved performance without breaking the noise restrictions on track days.

Stock Exhaust System

The standard exhaust system has two silencers, quite a few bends and weighs a ton (well it feels like it if you remove it solo). The first of the two silencers had definitely seen better days so won’t be missed.

Stock Silencers

You can see from the colour of the left hand silencer that it’s suffered most from the ravages of time. The exhaust re-route pipe removes the left hand silencer and associated pipe work.

Dead Weight

The left hand silencer and pipe after a few minutes with a hacksaw, as well as making for a simpler freer flowing exhaust this removes about 25kg of “useless” weight.

After removing the left hand part of the exhaust fitting the re-route pipe is simplicity itself with just a couple of u-bolts securing it to the remaining pipe work.

The result is a deeper tone to the exhaust without being excessively loud, for the fraction of the cost of a full system, the installation was finished off with a set of GT Tuning’s slash cut tips.
